Workshop Instructors

Iron Edge / Australian Kettlebells founder and owner Rick Ravensdale produced the first kettlebell for his own use in 2000. Soon after, he realised the potential of the kettlebell as one of the most effective tools for strength and conditioning.

Rick pioneered the kettlebell training concept in Australia widely endorsing the benefits of kettlebell training. Rick has developed a certification course consisting of three levels of workshops, with each workshop covering more advanced material so that your knowledge is progressed in a logical and systematic fashion. Rick has recruited Australia’s top trainers to ensure that you get the most out of your training sessions with us.

Emily Friedel

Emily has been training with kettlebells since 2006.  In 2008 she got involved in Kettlebell (Girevoy) Sport.  She went on to be the first Australian to achieve the rank of Master of Sport and placed first in her event at the WKC World Championships in 2010 and 2011.  Emily also holds the official Australian women’s record for 24kg snatches.

Training exclusively with kettlebells for over 4 years has given Emily an understanding and appreciation for the finer points of kettlebell lifting that are often overlooked, but are essential for safety and good results.

Jarrod Boyle

Jarrod is a Melbourne-based personal trainer who began using kettlebells as an adjunct to his kickboxing training. “I found they were probably the only piece of equipment in the gym which could be used for a genuine holistic workout. Kettlebells are great not only because they complement striking movements, but also because of the way they train the posterior chain. Resistance training is generally focused on training the anterior aspect; kettlebells really condition those antagonistic muscles.”

In pursuit of the perfect lift, Jarrod has trained extensively with Emily Friedel and, in recent times, Valery Fedorenko.

Jarrod’s qualifications include:

  • Certificate III and IV in Fitness
  • 2007 Victorian super-heavyweight kickboxing champion
  • 2008 European Pro
  • WKC (World Kettlebell Club) accredited Sport Coach and Strength and Conditioning Coach
  • Level I and II Australian Kettlebell Instructor
  • Currently a staff writer for International Kickboxer Magazine
  • Columnist for Lifestyle Trainers
  • World Kettlebell Club Strength and Conditioning Coach
  • World Kettlebell Club Sport Coach
