FAQ

1. Who are the workshops for?

The workshops are aimed at personal trainers or those working in the fitness industry who want to learn how to teach their clients safe and effective kettlebell training techniques and how to program effectively for a wide range of goals using kettlebells. Teaching is a skill, and a good teacher needs to be armed with a variety of teaching tools in order for them to be able to communicate their knowledge and expertise to a wide range of people with differing needs. These workshops are for those who would like to get their hands on those highly effective teaching tools.

People outside of the fitness industry who just want to learn correct technique and get some programming ideas for their own training will also get a lot out of the workshops. The detail provided in the workshops and the illustration of correct vs incorrect form will ensure any lifter knows exactly what they’re doing by the end of a session.

2. Are there pre-requisites for the workshops?

There are no pre-requisites for the Level 1 Workshop, however if you are planning to teach the use of kettlebells to others you should ensure you have adequate insurance. This will usually mean you have to be registered as a personal trainer (Certificate IV in Fitness or higher eg Human Movement Degree) with either Kinect Australia or Fitness Australia, or be a registered with the Australian Strength & Conditioning Association. It is advisable that you notify your insurer that you will be using kettlebells and check that they will cover kettlebell training activities.

You will need to be a registered personal trainer to receive a certificate.

Successful completion of the Level 1 Workshop is a prerequisite for the Level 2 Workshop.

Successful completion of the Level 2 Workshop is a prerequisite for the Level 3 Workshop.

3. Do I get PDPs or CECs for the workshops?

Our workshops are currently Kinect accredited, with Level 1 worth 1 PDP and Level 2 worth 2 PDPs. Level 3 accreditation is still pending.

To date Fitness Australia haven’t accredited any kettlebell courses, but we are in the process of getting our courses accredited through them and hope to have CECs by the middle of 2010.

4. Are there any assessments for the workshops?

There are no formal assessments for the Level 1 Workshop, you just need to demonstrate competency at the required lifts throughout the workshop.

Level 2 will require a demonstration of competency of the Level 1 lifts as these lifts are essential for the Level 2 lifts. There is also a short multiple choice test for the Level 2 Workshop.

Level 3 assessments TBC.

5. Can I organise a workshops at my facility?

We can certainly run in-house training and we can tailor it to your needs. Cost will be dependent on location, number of participants, equipment hire etc. For a quote please email emily@kettlebells.com.au

6. What is the difference between your workshops and those of other providers?

The research that has gone into our workshops is extensive and we have sourced our information from the most acclaimed national and international kettlebell experts including Steve Cotter, Vasily Ginko, Valery Fedorenko and Pavel Tsatsouline. We have pooled decades of research on kettlebell training and come up with the safest and most effective techniques to teach beginners right through to elite athletes.

We also hone in on the teaching points for each exercise and how to correct common mistakes, which is vital in order for trainers to be able to communicate how to perform an exercise safely.

Importantly, we recognise that there are several different styles of kettlebell lifting. Unlike some providers, we don’t subscribe to only one of these but understand that each has its place and we pick the best and most appropriate applications for each style. We believe that to be well-informed, trainers must understand the full spectrum of kettlebell training in order to be able to best tailor programs to their clients’ specific needs.

We also provide ongoing support.   After completing a workshop you are welcome to contact us at any time with questions on kettlebell training.
